Set amongst the rural coastline of Devon is Woolacombe House, a single dwelling in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Much consideration was given to the extension and renovation to create extensive openings for coastal views within a flexible family holiday home. A material palette was selected to work in coexistence with the natural setting and rural scenes. White walls frame the openings that provide key views to the outdoors and seasonal changing coastal colours. Locally-sourced materials such as clay and timber were used for the walls and cladding, introducing texture and to celebrate the local vernacular. A white-washed oak extension to the rear provides a much needed sheltered entrance and utility space to mediate the living spaces and the outside.
