A new vision for a mixed-use building on the Culture Mile in the City of London. Located prominently, adjacent Farringdon Crossrail Station and Smithfield Market, the scheme caters to creative small-to-medium enterprises with a durable but polished material palette. Ground floor cafe space with maximised glazing repairs an unfriendly existing corner condition and brings activity to the public street scene. 15,000sqft of flexible office space includes two new extensions clad in profiled aluminium, referencing the zig-zag rhythm of the existing facade along Hayne Street, and existing brickwork is bought to life with new glazing and stone surrounds. The scheme is a testbed for the client’s new net zero carbon policy and employs energy-efficient servicing, natural ventilation and urban greening to roof terraces as well as exceeding requirements for commuter facilities.
