A prominent corner building in the heart of Shoreditch, HUT worked to reveal historic structure, expose lost features, and open up spaces to their original scale and proportions. A sensitive restoration of the façade and roof, alongside upgrades to the fabric of the building envelope, improve the energy efficiency of the building whilst respecting its heritage, helping to safeguard its history as well as its future. This approach continues internally, with minimal contemporary additions designed to be disassembled and recycled at the end of their useful life. Natural materials such as timber, leather, and brass are used, that will develop patina over time, adding another layer of history to the building. Photography by Emanuelis Stasaitis.
